EPOS|Sennheiser IMPACT SC 630 Corded Headset
The Sennheiser SC630 Corded Headset aka ‘The Century’ is Sennheiser’s premium ultra noise cancelling mono headset, designed to be used with your desk phone, smart phone, or computer (each requires the correct connector cable). The SC630 headset has an over the head wearing style, with rotatable microphone for left or right hand side wear.
What is EPOS? EPOS is the new co-branded name for Sennheiser.
All corded headsets come with a brand specific QD (quick disconnect) connection and require a same brand adaptor cable to make them compatible with your phone. These range in price from $25-70. Many of these cables look the same but are different inside, so if you’re not 100% sure which you need, give us a call and our staff will gladly check for you. Alternatively just add the headset to cart and follow the prompts to find the right cable for your phone. There are also cables for mobile phones and computers (though if you just need this headset for computer use there is a USB version.
The Good
Where to start!!??? Sennheiser have told us this is the ultimate, the bees knees, the dog’s…. well you get the idea – they’re pretty proud of it. But what to WE think of it? Pretty much the same actually. Sennheiser have an unrivalled reputation for all things audio and this headset is no different. If you are buying a headset for someone who wants the best corded headset that money can buy – stop reading, you’ve found it, just add to cart now.
The Century has HD voice clarity, an ULTRA noise cancelling microphone but is still lightweight and comfortable enough to wear all day. The ULTRA noise cancelling microphone means that even in the noisiest call centre, you’ll sound like you have a corner office with a view. Most of our headset team wear ultra noise cancelling headsets (albeit wireless) so call and ask for a little over the phone demo of just how much noise it blocks out.
The speakers are made from high quality neodymium so you can hear every utterance. It’s ‘wideband’ so if you and your caller are on IP phones you won’t get that flat tinny quality to the voice – the 630 enhances the voice to sound entirely natural. These earcups fold flat for storage or travel.
The build quality of the SC600 range is second to none; Stainless steel and brushed aluminium parts for lightweight strength, metal re-inforced headband as well as ultra sonic welded microphone housing. In addition Sennheiser as so confident in these headsets that the entire SC 600 range comes with a 3 year warranty instead of the normal 2 years – so you are you feeling the love yet?
As you’d expect from Sennheiser, their patented Activeguard technology protects your hearing from sudden loud noises which can cause acoustic shock. This saves your business from hefty Work Cover claims.
The Not So Good
There’s really nothing bad to say about this headset headset per se – the only thing to consider is if your environment is noisy enough that you want an ultra noise cancelling microphone, you may wish to consider a binaural headset (on both ears) to help you concentrate.
As with any corded headset, with the Sennheiser SC600s you are tethered to your phone via a cable, this can be frustrating when wires lie across your desk and get in the way of papers or drop down and get crushed & tangled under chair wheels. If your work requires that you get up from your desk (whether on a call or not) you’ll need to unclip the headset or take it off each time & reclip / put it back on when you return. If you do this a lot it can get super-annoying so a wireless headset could save you time, hassle (and hair!)
If you don’t have a headset port on your phone, a corded headset will take the place of your handset. If you still want to use the handset you can pick up a switch to allow you to swap between the two but really, at that price point you may as well look at the excellent wireless headsets from Sennheiser (the DW Pro range also have the ultra noise cancelling microphone).
As we’ve mentioned, corded headsets need connector cables, so don’t forget to factor in those costs when budgeting. If you have a phone that is difficult to match for compatibility you may have to look at an amplifier. An amp, while providing superior call control (with mute and volume controls) and sound quality, will push up the price to about the same as a wireless headset (which have an amp built in), no brainer – if you need an amp, get a wireless headset!
The Verdict
The Sennheiser SC 630 is for staff who want the best quality sound on the market and prefer a corded headset.
Other Headsets To Consider Before Buying
If staff sit close together or noise levels are high, Sennheiser may be a better option as it is binaural and helps staff to focus in a busy / noisy environment. There are also padded headbands available in the & . If you don’t need the ultra cancelling microphone or every bell & whistle, the & are both excellent headsets.
Another factor to consider is the extra productivity that can be gained from the freedom to walk away from your desk while on a call. It is worth checking out the which is a great entry level wireless option for only a small amount extra. If you want to stick with Sennheiser then the is their magnificent wireless option, which also has an ultra noise cancelling microphone. If you think 2 ears are better than one, the is your best choice.
